SINCE ALMOST 30 YEARS IN BOLOGNA THE BEST RESTAURANT WITH JAZZ CLUB
The premises, under different names and ownerships, have existed for over 60 years. They were first used as a wine warehouse and “fiaschetteria”: here wine was brought in barrels and demijohns, and was stored, ready to be put into flasks (fiaschi). These characteristic containers in glass, covered with straw, holding about 2 liters of wine, were then sold to those families who found themselves unable to produce their own wine in the cellars of their homes, a custom which was very widespread in Bologna up until the beginning of the 1960s. With the advent of wine marketed in bottles produced and labeled by vineyards, the “fiaschetteria” ceased operations and the space was converted into a warehouse for various goods. It was not until 1982 that it was reborn in its present form as an osteria with kitchen, even if under a different name than the current one, and limited to the rooms immediately adjacent to the entrance. In May 1987, the current partnership took over the licenses and initiated the activities which have continued without interruption to the present day. In October 1989, the large Music Room was opened, created from the cellars of the 16th-century Palazzo Bentivoglio which had been used up until that time as a warehouse and cellar of the osteria. This large room immediately became home to the musical activities which over the course of the years have led the Cantina Bentivoglio to become internationally recognized as a true temple of jazz. In 1993, finally, an adjacent furniture warehouse was taken over and transformed into what is now the Meeting Room of the Cantina, a space which can accommodate more than 50 seated guests. The privacy of this space makes it eminently suitable for parties, meetings, product presentations, etc. Its walls are adorned with a collection of contemporary art which includes a number of works by well-known artists.
